New Paltz, New York

NEW PALTZ

New Paltz, Just 90 minutes from Manhattan, is a vibrant college town with an expected a lively music scene, plenty of charming eateries, boutiques and cafes and the SUNY New Paltz campus with all its cultural and social activities.

Rent a bicycle and spend the day of the Walkill Valley Rail Trail, which meanders along the Wallkill River. Or take a walking tour of Historic Huguenot Street and explore this wonderful 17th-century community with guided tours of the church, homes and archaelological sites of New Paltz's first settlers.

But for me, Mohonk Preserve is the crown jewel of New Paltz.  Access is just 5 minutes from the village past the local farmers market and you can explore over 110 miles of trails and carriage roads for hiking, biking, or running. The trails are groomed constantly so it offers year round enjoyment. I love to hike to Duck Pond and up to the Bell Tower of Mohonk Mountain House or Bonticou Crag. The views are spectacular, and the hike walks you through existing farmland, past streams and meadows, a true nature lover’s paradise.

The Shawangunk Ridge, or "The Gunks" is the backdrop for all of this beauty. The ridge is a world class rock climbing destination for the more adventurous, home to a plethora of wildlife. The Nature Conservancy has recognized the Shawangink Ridge's scenic cliffs, plateaus and open meadows as being one of Earth's "Last Great Places."

New Paltz is the perfect destination to get away from it all. Charming country roads, stone walls, farms and thousands of acres of protected Open Space. The town is small enough to have a rich sense of community spirit, but large enough to offer 5-star dining as well as a picnic basket by the river.

I have been a real estate agent specializing in the New Paltz market for 18 years, and as I drive down the romantic country roads showing homes to potential buyers I am right with them, enjoying it all, taking it all in.  I don’t call this work at all. – Anne Rajs, Licensed R.E. Salesperson
